I love IMVU. Personally I am 48 years old and far from the oldest I've met, and while that may seem ancient to some IMVU users, it's true that in-world, everyone's this floaty dreamy young mystical beauty or sexy tramp or hunky guy...we suspend the usual judgments about age, gender, weight, race, beauty--at least of the real person behind the avatar. I know that that hot brunette i spent some innocent minutes dancing with in the lesbian love room may in fact be a middle aged balding male. But what I like is how well IMVU divorces the avatar from the anima, as it were. You feel that you are meeting someone's soul, as it is usually a disconnected part of them you are meeting. I have been tempted to look into Second LIfe, because there is more of a connected world of lands and that appeals to the Tolkien aspect of my interests, whereas in IMVU you have isolated "rooms"--which actually are spaces that can be beaches, buildings, clubs, spaceships, scenes from history, and so on. There's an Avatar room (as in the movie), for example. But each room is different, and if you are looking for short well-defined, innocent flings, or to get to know an idealized and stylized version of someone, or if you enjoy modifying your wardrobe and appearance for just pennies, then IMVU is for you. It rarely actually crashes...usually its because of things I am doing on the client machine (like trying to record video); the rooms are slow to load but once they load they're good. I should think that they would be seeking to isolate the loading process from the goings-on in the rooms better. Since most rooms are limited to 10 or less, the loading factor is not nearly as bad as it could be if they allowed a real free-for-all.

every site needs a certain ammount of real currency to play with, if money does not come into play, then imvu will bankrupt . So its really understanderble why they charge some fees. But no matter what, you still could get back a certain ammount of cash from it. And personally i like the graphics there, not imvu, but the ones where developers made. they are really talented.

I am a member of IMVU and since im not very tech savy it took me awhile to realize that IMVU was still in beta and will probably never come out if it continues to crash, lag, and have a a rigged customer support team. Does anyone realize IMVU is still in beta, meaning that they know they kind of suck, and that they can withdraw from the virtual world anyday and leave all of their users between a rock and a hard place, seeing as the game is addictive and you have to pay real currency for virtual IMVU credits?

lol try play IMVU long enough you'll start to hate it. They started off good but eventually screw it up with all the rules etc.. and disabling devs who has been making items since the beginning. So that the devs items become theirs for the taking. IMVU has cheated out so many DEVS who has put their effort into IMVU. The only DEVS around in IMVU are those being elected as Moderators. So basically it is their own ring of friends who get to stay top on the DEVS chart. Oh yes just carefull who you talk to too.. Talking to the wrong person the admins might think you are a close friend or him/her and if this person you talk to is selling UFI items you get banned too for talking to him/her. So well that is how lame IMVU is.. Good Luck.. If i'm you i would suggest SecondLife.

there are so many people i have met on there ages 30+. honeslty i see more adults than teenagers and most people tend to ignore the younger ones because no adult wants to speak with a 13 year old girl who dresses their avi like a hooker and advertises themselves as a sextoy.
as for the foul language i have only met 3 people on there who tried to talk dirty and i blocked them. other than that most people are very polite and appropriate in their conversations. i guess its all who you decide to talk to and how you promote yourself to other people.
i am fairly new and have only been a member since december 2007, i saw a few glitches w/ the snapshot function when i first joined but it was quickly fixed. my chat client has never crashed or failed to connect but i have a very good internet connection and a brand new laptop so maybe that helps. i think imvu is much better than any of the other options named and i would choose it over aim or yahoo any day.

I disagree Jodi. I myself am 25. I have over 300 buddies & most of them r actually ages 20 n upwards. Quite a few in their 30's. Yes imvu can suck sometimes with the crashes n bugs but it is addictive & me 2 have got teh chance 2 become a developer and make things that i never thought i could. Plus there is so much more now on imvu than there ever was with all the new developer animations & dances etc coming out. Way better han msn. I mean on msn all u do is stare at a lil box n type some words. Wheres the fun in that when on imvu u can dance, pose, mess about in rooms & Scenes. Wear the sexiest outfits (hopefully made by me lol) & alot more. If i made a list fo everything u can do on imvu with all the cool stuff we all b here til next year. Awesome!

I'm not really sure why everyone decided to jump down Dave's throat. I agree with him quite a bit, though I do side with others that Yahoo is a far cry in comparison to things like IMVU or SecondLife.

IMVU is definitely made up mostly of teenagers, just go to the forums if you don't believe that. Mostly means the majority of, it doesn't mean there aren't people 20+ hanging around, the better half of the leading developers are at least close to that. And I think that BECAUSE the majority are teenagers is the only reason IMVU is staying afloat, let alone making 9 million, which I'm sure we'll never see put to good use. Mommys and Daddys spend crazy amounts of money on their kid's account. IMVU is very addicting when it comes to keeping your avatar in style, and no one wants just one measely outfit for long with all the new products coming out every single day. Not to mention the fact that young, role play loving teenagers won't complain about the overall unreliability of IMVU in the numbers that adults would.

I like IMVU for the most part, or obviously I wouldn't put as much time into it as I do. Nonetheless, everyday I see more and more of the makeshift reliability and bad choices that the ones in charge of the system tend to make. But who knows, if IMVU doesn't get out of the 3 year reign of the BETA version, Yahoo might catch up and surpass it. At this point I don't doubt it.

good idea, beta is a good word for it! I'll be more interested when it performs smoothly and has more life like options. Too many people looking for cyber sex, where has the art of converstation gone? the young ones are ok but the 16 to 25 year olds are a complete pain in the.. you know where!

Love the clothes! totally adorable, perhaps someone should offer real versions for sale, could become a fashion statement!

hope it continues to grow and allows more real time 3d action. Thanks for trying IMVU! I'll keep my account open and watch you grow

To answer your question relaxedguy, the easiest way to avoid foul language is to click on the Big Red X located in the right hand side of any window. Isn’t that what it is there for to CLOSE the window?

IMVU does have numerous ways to avoid foul disgusting language and also has ways to protect its community members against other abuses as well. If a chat becomes abusive in nature there is an option called "REPORT ABUSE" in the chat window. By clicking on this button it logs and notifies IMVU staff of the situation. Also, you can block certain members from accessing your avatar homepage, by simply clicking block user in your messages panel.

IMVU also has added a new mode feature called "ADULTS ONLY", which enables only adult members to speak with one another. I think the reason they did this was because of all the ADULT users who had wanted this feature. I am 30 years old and I find plenty of other adults to chat with.

IMVU is a good program for matchmaking and socializing. A wonderful tool which IMVU has is called "search for users". You can search by age sex location etc or combine different search options to narrow a certain type of user down. Another cool feature IMVU has is called “SHOUT CAST. When You click on this feature insert a topic or theme for chat, and it sends the message out to the IMVU main page, where other users can see your profile picture and theme and join if they so desire. In addition, located on your avatar homepage is INTEREST PANELS. You simply write a list of the things which interest you, and if you want to find other users by interests which match yours just click on a particular interest in your own panel and magically every user who has that same interest will be listed with their profile picture and interest. How nifty is that eh?

I could go on and on about the new wonderful features that IMVU has inserted into this program since I first started back in January 2006, but I think you can clearly tell by now that I do enjoy and support IMVU.

IMVU is not a perfect community, but IMVU is definitely a community which an avatar can evolve and grow with! Don’t take my word for it though, sign up is free go and check it out for yourself ;)
