Here are december numbers for Domain name Searches.
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

Match.com 1,263,083
eHarmony.com 162,297
Americansingles.com 108,759
Plentyoffish.com 145,811
Manhunt.net 166,525
Cupid.com 116,189
Blackpeoplemeet.com 98,246
Mate1.com 98,128
HotorNot.com 46,334
TRUE.com 86,488
Singlesnet.com 81,100
Perfectmatch.com 37,520

JAN 2006 numbers

Match.com 1,438,111 +13.9%
eHarmony.com 226,925 +39.8%
Plentyoffish.com 172,997 +18.6%
Manhunt.net 172,505 +0.8%
Cupid.com 134,111 +15.4%
Blackpeoplemeet.com 112,041 +14%
Americansingles.com 113,503 +4.4%
Mate1.com 118,917 +21%
Singlesnet.com 95566 +17.8%
TRUE.com 89,263 +3.2%
HotorNot.com 50,481 +9%
Perfectmatch.com 39390 +5%

Jan is the month that dating traffic normally increases 20%. I think that domain name searches on yahoo etc are a reflection of your brand strength and what the market thinks of your site.

Americansingles, True and perfectmatch are the big main stream losers. I can only see 2006 as a year in which they lose major money. They were unable to capitalise on word of mouth during the dating industries peak season.

"Elliot says only 14% of non-conversions use free sites."

Look at the canadian market, Plentyoffish now has over 50% marketshare. Lavalifes 1 year alexa chart is going straight down. Mine stays the same as I get people to uninstall the toolbar.

Well, I've always said that primary data collection and research was key to any business sector.

The industry still has a way to go before it comes out of this "wild-west" mentality of operations. Numbers are what drives the most successful companies throughout history. Why would Online Dating be any different?
