Rogue Connect has also recently begun using a tagging system. We've implemented it into only a small portion of the site, the group fashion blog.

We've take a dual approach with all of ours, when you view tags you're given the Top 100 and you're also give 50 random rags. I'm more preferential to the second set of tags (it's more fresh and interesting IMO) but I can see the need for the first set.

Hey Dave - I like your eval of MatchWords. I'm the Busines Lead at Match responsible for the product. I'm also a Technical Architect here and helped with the implementation. Care to chat on the phone or online sometime?

Can we be sure of the validity of any info from these sites. I have found dummy profiles that are there solely to entice you to upgrade to a paid membership. Sparks net work is especially bad.

If tag clouds are bad (they act as 'most popular'), then what is the use for tags if there is the old-fashioned fulltext search? How are tags better? I don't see any advantage unless the amount of search results is huge.

Hey Mark - I just tried their new tagging feature. What part is broken? Everything looks Ok so far...

Instead of doing a top 10 most popular, what would you do instead? It seems to me that this would be good fro SEO purposes because the most popular tags would also be popular in Google and provide Match with new types of niche traffic to http://www.match.com/matchwords/golf for example.

Tags are searchable...

Showing top lists and recently added is pointless. I want things to be natural not a popularity/spam contest.

What is you on the site is customized depending on how much detail you put into your profile.

Plentyoffish was the first site to use tagging, far before consumating. The only difference is that i used it for SEO.

After consumating came out I rewrote the searches on the site so that whenever you do a search a comparison of tags was done. If you have interests in common with someone else they will show up right on the search results pages. In otherwords a tag search and traditional search are done at the same time and the results combined.

To date Plentyoffish has the only workable solution to bring tagging to the general public and be of use in helping you find someone.
