We found that there were seldom any people “Really close.” There were none in the “Nearby” group and a few in the “In the area” group, but the biggest selection was in the “Random users” group. Clicking on a user’s picture brought up the conversation window, with its link to the user’s profile. We had no problem adding other services, like AIM and Windows Live Messenger, and contacts for those appeared in a tab on the buddy list, with the Meetro contacts in the “Near” tab. The entries for these other services don’t show buddy images, either in this list or in the bare-bones but pleasant conversation window:

Sam, there was no takeover deal to inflate the asking price of. It was entirely speculation.

Maybe the source close to / within meetroduction decided to hype up the company to inflate the asking price for other possible takeover deals.

InternetNews didn’t pick this up from the blogosphere, they claimed to know a source close to the transaction. Here’s a direct quote…

“Google is expected to announce the acquisition of Meetroduction later this week, a source close to the transaction told internetnews.com.”

The whole meetroduction false alarm thing made me aware of how powerful RSS could be. If the news started at a blog, it must have been thru rss and got picked up and circulated around. Then internetnews picked it up, now even Sydney Morning Herald published the possible takeover.
