California wants safer dating

by David Evans on March 1, 2005 in Dating Safety

Assemblymember Fran Pavley (D – Agoura Hills, CA), is the latest lawmaker to support labeling dating sites that don’t perform background checks with a piece of text on their home page that says “WARNING: WE HAVE NOT CONDUCTED A FELONY-CONVICTION SEARCH OR FBI SEARCH ON THIS INDIVIDUAL.” The more I read about this the more I shake my head at the groundswell occurring behind this legislation. Latest example- each state will have final say over the wording of the actual alert. The internet is global and people date across state and country lines all the time. Who in the world is going to police all 800+ dating site home pages? Don’t forget social networking, business networking and other markets which may fall under the umbrella wording of the legislation.

I included the text at the top of my profile viewer source code and, well, after seeing it 10 times I was used to it. If they want us to prominently post all kinds of text in order to stay in business, well, we’ll have to do it. Right?

Why somebody don’t launch a new on line personals / dating / social networking site CRIMINALS_FOR_CRIMINALS_ONLY? (It is a joke)

I think that now background checks is a PLUS, but in 5 years will be a MUST. And with a more mature market, the persons (clients) will be glad to pay for background checks, althoug a a complete investigation (including the fee of a private detective) will cost nearly USD3,000.

In 5 years there will exist a border, a frontier between
OFF line Chains (Dating and Matchmaking Agencies)
and
ON line personals / dating / social networking Sites.

On line Dating future = = QUALITY like OFF line Chains

Contacting people, COMPATIBLE REAL PEOPLE, is NOT a GAME, NOT a JOKE, is not virtual reality nor something like that.

Kindest Regards,
