The Knot enters personals business

From Crains New York:

Manhattan-based The Knot Inc. is entering the $500 million online personals business, with the acquisition of Ithaca, N.Y.-based Great Boyfriends.

The Knot Inc., which owns wedding-planning Web site TheKnot.com, did not disclose terms of the deal. GreatBoyfriends, a referral-based franchise created in 2002, owns and operates GreatBoyfriends.com and GreatGirlfriends.com. The Web sites post information about eligible singles who are “vouched for” by their friends, family members, ex-wives or ex-husbands. Visitors to the site get free access to the personal ads if they nominate someone in turn, or can pay $20 a month for a subscription.
